The Joy of the Ultimate Proof: Day 27 of Joy
He died for you.
What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He did not even spare his own Son but gave him up for us all; how will he not also with him grant us everything? Who can bring an accusation against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies. Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the one who died, but even more, who has been raised; he also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us. —Romans 8:31-34
We live with an underlying fear of rejection. We worry that if people truly knew our flaws, our mistakes, and our secret struggles, they would walk away. This creates an unhealthy habit of overcompensating; we try to prove our worth to those around us and even to God. When we stumble, we feel harassed by an internal voice of accusation that tells us we aren’t enough.
Every accusing voice is silenced in today’s passage. Paul asks the ultimate question: If God is for us, who can be against us? The proof that God is unalterably “for you” isn’t a feeling or a streak of good luck; it is the cross.
If the supreme Judge of the universe has already cleared your record, no court in heaven or on earth can bring a charge against you. Your security is unsinkable because it does not rely on your daily performance. Jesus didn’t just die for you; He was raised, and He is currently sitting at the right hand of God, actively defending you. You can live free of the enemy’s accusations because the One who has the authority to condemn is the very One who gave His life to save you.
The 90/10 Rule of Final Justification
[read this article to learn more about the 90/10 rule]
The 10%: The whispers of guilt, the memories of past failures, and the critical opinions of others that try to make you feel condemned.
The 90%: The finished work of Jesus on the cross and His ongoing intercession for you at the throne of God.
If you focus on the 10 percent, you will live a life handcuffed to your past. When you give the 90 percent of your attention to the fact that He died for you, your joy finds a permanent, unshakable anchor. The debt has been paid; the case is closed. You are legally justified the exact moment you believe in Jesus for eternal life, entirely apart from your works, your promises, or your performance. Nothing you do can ever reopen the courtroom or reverse His verdict.
The next time a thought of self-doubt or old guilt comes to your mind, meet it with Romans 8. Look at that failure and say: “Who can condemn me? Christ Jesus is the one who died for me.” Let that realization allow you to walk in complete freedom today.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for willingly giving up Your life for me. I confess that I often listen to the voices of accusation and forget that You have already justified me. Today, I choose to rest in the cross, knowing that because You died and rose again, nothing can ever stand against me. Amen.
