No Judgment for the Believer
Faith alone secures eternal life—judgment is not a threat.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”
—John 5:24
In this powerful declaration, Jesus Himself removes all uncertainty for those who believe. When you place your faith in Him and in the Father who sent Him, your eternal destiny is settled forever. You already possess everlasting life. You have already crossed over from death to life.
Believers in Jesus Christ will not be judged to determine their eternal destiny. That is a settled matter.
The judgment Jesus speaks of here is not about evaluating whether you will be saved or lost because that question was answered the moment you believed Jesus’ life-saving promise. Your sins were placed on Christ at the cross, and His perfect righteousness was credited to you. Faith alone in Christ alone is enough. No future courtroom scene will ever overturn God’s verdict of “Not guilty” pronounced over your life.
We are sure of our eternal destiny because we are sure that our Savior lives and our Savior keeps His promises. And that certainty produces in us a profound sense of gratitude that moves us to give our lives in service for Him. We do not serve Him so that we might get into the kingdom. We serve Him because we love Him and are certain we will spend eternity in His kingdom with Him based not on what we have done or will do but based on what He has done for us on the cross and what He has promised us as a result. —Robert Wilkin, Grace Evangelical Society
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the unshakable promise in John 5:24. Because I have heard Your word and believed in You, I have everlasting life today. I will never face judgment that determines my eternal destiny because that matter is forever settled at the cross. Help me to live without fear, fully assured that I have passed from death into life. Let this truth sink deep into my heart so that I walk in freedom, joy, and gratitude. Strengthen my faith to rest completely in what Jesus has already accomplished. In His mighty name I pray, Amen.
