A father and his son were traveling across the Wild West in a wagon one day when a prairie fire broke out. The father and his son tried to outrun the wildfire in their wagon, but they quickly realized that it wasn’t going to work. The fire was coming too fast, and unless they tried something else, it would catch up to them and consume them.

Much to the confusion of the son, the father turned the horse and wagon around and rushed directly back toward the fire. He took them to a spot that had already been burned and yelled to his son, “Jump out and stand here. Don’t move!”

They both jumped out, but the boy became afraid as he saw the fire raging and moving toward them. He wanted to run, but his father grabbed his hand and said, “Don’t move son. Stand firm!”

“But the fire is almost here,” the son cried, his voice shaking with fear. “I don’t understand.”

“This spot has already been burned,” his dad replied. “There is nothing left for the fire to grab. The fire will come near, but it cannot burn again what has already been burned once before.” The boy was safe because he stayed with his father in a place that the fire could not reach.

As Satan battles you in spiritual warfare, he wants you to step away from the ground that has already been burned in the spiritual realm, which is Jesus Christ. Jesus has already been crucified, and His resurrection has already secured the victory. Satan can’t touch you when you stay close to Christ. If you stand firm in the center of the safest location—the cross, where the victory has been accomplished—you will stand victoriously because Satan can’t reach you there.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, strengthen me in my spiritual battles. When the enemy tempts me to wander, draw me back to the only safe place—Jesus. I will stand victorious because You have already won. In the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.

And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, ‘He told me all that I ever did.’ So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. And many more believed because of His own word. Then they said to the woman, ‘Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.’
—John 4:39-42

One woman’s encounter at the well sparked a revival in her city. Her simple, honest testimony—“He told me all that I ever did”—was powerful enough to draw many Samaritans to Jesus. They came, listened, and urged Him to stay with them. For two days He remained, teaching them directly. What began with second-hand faith grew into personal conviction as they heard His own words.

Take note: The words “believed in Him” are the same words of John 3:16. Whoever believes in Him has everlasting life.

This is the same saving faith: trusting in Jesus not just as a teacher or prophet, but as the Christ, the Savior of the world. The Samaritans moved from curiosity to confession. They no longer relied solely on the woman’s story; they had experienced Jesus for themselves and declared Him Lord over all people—not just Jews, not just Samaritans, but the entire world.

Jesus is enough for your personal story and enough for everyone else’s. Your testimony, like the woman at the well, can be the spark that leads others to Him. But the greatest transformation happens when people hear and encounter Jesus for themselves. He is the Savior of the world—willing to stay, to teach, and to reveal that real, everlasting life is found only in believing in Him.

No one is beyond the reach of His grace. No city, no community, no heart is too far gone. When we believe in Jesus for His life-saving promise, we receive the same everlasting life promised in John 3:16.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Savior of the world. Thank You that one changed life can impact many. Help me to share my testimony boldly, just as the Samaritan woman did, pointing others to You. I believe in You—the same faith declared in John 3:16. Thank You for the gift of everlasting life. Draw many more to Yourself through Your Word and through the lives of those who know You. May my faith move from second-hand to deeply personal as I spend time with You. The woman said to Him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming’ (who is called Christ). ‘When He comes, He will tell us all things.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I who speak to you am He.’” —John 4:25-26

She believed the Christ was coming. She expected that when He arrived, He would reveal truth she could not hide. And right there at the well, Jesus did exactly that, He told her all things she had ever done (John 4:29). Every failed relationship, every attempt to quench her thirst with what the world offered, every hidden shame. He laid it all out in the light of perfect knowledge.

Yet He did not condemn her. He did not turn away. Instead, He declared, “I who speak to you am He.” The Messiah she had been waiting for was standing before her, fully aware of her story, and still offering living water that would become a well springing up into everlasting life.

The woman found the Christ. In that moment of being completely known, she discovered she was completely loved. Her response? She left her water jar, ran back to the city, and told the men, “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” (John 4:29). Her testimony was powerful precisely because it was honest; she had been seen to her core, and it changed everything.

You do not have to clean yourself up before Jesus meets you. He already knows every chapter of your story—the regrets, the repetitions, the quiet longings for something more. And still He says, “I am He.” Jesus is enough to handle the full truth of who you are. In Him you are not rejected; you are redeemed. In Him you are not exposed for shame; you are known for salvation.

Like the woman at the well, you can leave behind whatever you were carrying and run to tell others. The One who knows you best is the One who satisfies you most.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You that You see all of me and still call me Yours. You know every place I’ve tried to find satisfaction apart from You, and yet You offer me living water that never runs dry. I believe You are the Christ, the Messiah who was promised. Forgive me for the times I have looked elsewhere. Fill me afresh today with Your presence so that my life overflows with Your love. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
—Psalm 51:10

This heartfelt cry comes from the lowest point in David’s life. After committing adultery and murder, he was confronted by the prophet Nathan and finally faced the depth of his sin. Instead of making excuses, David turned to God with raw honesty and asked for something only God can do: create a clean heart and renew a right spirit.

According to Pastor J. Vernon McGee, the word for “create” here is the same word as in Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”—bara, out of nothing. “I need a new heart,” David said. “Create in me a new heart,” and the word create means “out of nothing.” In other words, there was nothing in David’s heart that God could use. He was not asking for renovation or reformation. He was asking for something new. Sometimes we hear the invitation, “Give God your heart.” May I ask you, “What do you think God wants with that old dirty, filthy heart of yours?” He doesn’t want it. God is not asking anybody to give Him his heart. He wants to give you a new one. That’s what He wants to do.

“Create in me a new heart” is what David is asking for.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. —Ephesians 2:10

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. —2 Corinthians 5:17

Prayer: Heavenly Father, create in me a clean heart. Wash away every hidden sin, every selfish motive, and every impure thought. Renew a right spirit within me — one that is steady, humble, and fully devoted to You. I don’t want to manage my sin; I want to be made new. Thank You that Your mercy is greater than my failure. Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” —John 4:13-14

At Jacob’s well, a tired and thirsty Samaritan woman met the Source of living water. She had come for ordinary water to satisfy a temporary need. Jesus offered her something far greater: water that would quench her soul’s deepest thirst once and for all.

In our daily lives, we chase many “wells” that promise satisfaction but always leave us empty again: success, relationships, possessions, approval, or escape. Like the woman at the well, we return to the same places over and over, still parched. Jesus interrupts that cycle with a radical promise. Faith in Jesus alone is all that is needed to quench one’s thirst forever. No additional rituals, no perfect performance, no extra qualifications—just simple, trusting faith in Him.

According to James Montgomery Boice, the spring of water Jesus offers “will never cease but will continue to bubble away forever.” It is not a stagnant pool or a seasonal stream. It becomes an internal, ever-flowing fountain of eternal life within the believer. The satisfaction Jesus gives is permanent, abundant, and self-replenishing because its source is Christ Himself.

This is the heart of the “Enough” series: Jesus is enough. When you drink from Him by faith, the restless searching ends. Your soul finds rest not because circumstances change, but because He has filled you with Himself.

Remember Jesus’ words in the second half of John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” A more abundant life is available to believers right now.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being the living water that truly satisfies. Today I come to You, weary from drinking from broken wells that never quench my thirst. I believe in You alone. Fill me with Your eternal spring so that it bubbles up within me as a constant source of life, joy, and peace. May I never thirst again for what the world offers. “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” —John 3:36

In a world obsessed with earning, achieving, and proving ourselves worthy, Jesus offers the simplest and most radical invitation: Believe in the Son, and you have everlasting life. It is not a future expectation but already a present experience. It is one condition only.

The moment you place your trust in Jesus Christ, the verdict is rendered, the gift is given, and the life of God Himself enters you. Everlasting life is not something you wait to receive after death or after enough good works; it is the present possession of everyone who believes. You don’t have to strive for it, deserve it, or supplement it. Jesus is enough—right now, completely, forever.

This truth frees you from performance-based religion and fear-based living. Your standing with God no longer depends on how well you performed today or how spiritual you felt yesterday. It rests entirely on the finished work of the Son and your simple, ongoing trust in Him. When doubts arise or failures come, you can return to this anchor: “I believe in the Son, therefore I have everlasting life.”

The alternative is sobering: without Christ, the wrath of God remains. But for the believer, that wrath was fully satisfied at the cross. There is therefore now no condemnation. You are safe. You are alive. You are enough in Him.

Our works, by the way, remain vitally important; however, they are not related at all to our salvation but as the natural fruit that flows from faith in Jesus. Because we already possess everlasting life through simple belief in the Son, we are now free to live for God’s glory without the pressure of earning His acceptance. Good works—acts of obedience, love, and service—should overflow from a heart that treasures Christ, demonstrating that our faith is alive.

While everlasting life itself can never be lost (if it wasn’t meant to last forever, Jesus would have used a different word), our daily fellowship with God can be hindered or broken by unconfessed sin, neglect, or willful disobedience. When that happens, the joy, peace, and intimate sense of His presence dim, yet we remain His children. Confession of sins is an essential aspect of ongoing fellowship with God. Whenever a believer is made aware of a sin in his life, he should be open and honest with God and confess it. As long as a believer remains open and honest with God, he continues to walk in fellowship.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Son of God, I believe in You. Thank You that in this world obsessed with earning and proving ourselves, You offer the simplest gift—one condition only: believe in the Son, and I already have everlasting life as a present reality; my standing rests completely on Your finished work and my simple trust, so I am enough in You right now. Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves!
—2 Corinthians 13:5a

Imagine a beautiful church garden where four dedicated Christians are tending their own plots, each convinced they have the “most mature” section.

• Knowledgeable Karl has the tallest, most impressive plants. He knows every Bible verse by heart, quotes Greek and Hebrew, and wins every theology debate. His garden looks like a library of perfect specimens—but many plants are crowded together, and nothing is actually producing fruit.

• Prayerful Paula spends hours on her knees beside her plot. Her flowers are fragrant and her section is peaceful, but the soil is poor because she rarely adds the nutrients of God’s Word or serves others. Her plants are lovely but small and fragile.

• Serving Sam has the busiest plot. He’s out helping everyone else’s garden—building trellises, pulling weeds for neighbors, and sharing tools. His own plants are healthy from all the activity, but he’s exhausted and secretly envies Karl’s knowledge.

• Fruitful Fiona doesn’t have the tallest plants or the most activity. Instead, her garden quietly produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She studies the Master Gardener’s Manual (the Bible), talks with the Master Gardener daily, serves others naturally, and her plants feed the community. Her section isn’t flashy, but it’s thriving and reproducing.

The Master Gardener walks through and smiles at all four. He gently says, “Maturity isn’t measured by height, hours spent, or activity alone. It’s when My life flows through you—producing fruit that lasts and blessing others.”

Common ways Christians define spiritual maturity often look like Karl, Paula, or Sam’s gardens: Bible knowledge, prayer consistency, or active service. While each is valuable, true maturity is best seen in the quiet, steady fruit of Christlike character that Fiona displays. Note that her fruit was produced “naturally” through her faith in Jesus, not through exhausting efforts. Fiona put faith into action.

We cannot know our fruitfulness unless we examine ourselves.

“For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” —John 3:16

In this 30-day devotional series, we have reached the most memorized and most popular Bible verse in history. According to surveys, John 3:16 receives over two million monthly searches globally. That’s a lot! John 3:16 is taught to children in Sunday school and even displayed at sporting events. Yet, many people who identify as Christians today do not actually believe the promise made by Jesus in John 3:16.

What we should know first is that God’s love is not a limited resource we have to earn or measure up to. It is extravagant, sacrificial, and complete. Out of His love, He sent the Son to accomplish the work that secures believers for eternity. In a world that constantly tells us we are not enough, God declares that His provision for us is enough. The cross was not a partial solution; it was the full and final answer for our sin, our shame, and our separation from Him.

When we look at the depth of our failures or the height of our struggles, we can rest in this truth: Jesus saves believers.

Salvation is not based on our performance, our background, or our ability to clean ourselves up first. It is based entirely on God’s love and the finished work of Jesus. Believing in Him is the key that opens the door to a life that is secure, purposeful, and eternally held by the One who loved us enough to give everything.

John 3:16 doesn’t say “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever surrenders his entire heart, mind, and will to Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” No, what Jesus promised was that “whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Today, many people who think they are saved haven’t actually believed Jesus’ promise of everlasting life that is documented in John 3:16 and other passages. Many wish to replace “whoever believes in Him” with “whoever behaves in Him.” My friends, we cannot save ourselves. God’s love has already done what we never could. Rest in the sufficiency of His Son. His grace is enough. His sacrifice is enough. His promise is enough.

You can believe Jesus’ promise in John 3:16 because God said it and that settles it.

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” —John 3:14-15

In the wilderness, dying Israelites were healed the moment they looked at the bronze serpent Moses lifted up on a pole. They didn’t have to clean themselves first. They didn’t have to promise better behavior. They simply looked in faith—and they lived.

Jesus says the same thing about Himself. Just as that serpent was lifted up, He would be lifted up on the cross. Now, whoever looks to Him in faith receives eternal life. No long process. No religious checklist. Just one believing look at the Savior who was lifted up for our sins.

By looking in faith to the uplifted Messiah, we enter into a life which can never be lost.

Eternal life is not earned by years of good works or religious effort. A life that never ends is received the instant you look to Jesus and believe in Him for His life-saving promise.

Take a moment today to thank Him that because you have believed in Him, you already possess eternal life that can never be taken away. Rest in the beautiful truth that one look at the uplifted Savior was enough.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
—​Proverbs 27:6

This verse reminds us that true friendship often comes wrapped in honest correction. A trusted friend may point out our blind spots, delivering “wounds” that sting in the moment but heal us in the long run. Those sharp words are rooted in love and a desire to see us grow.

Conversely, the flattering words of an adversary feel pleasant, yet they mask hidden motives. They can lead us away from God’s truth, fostering pride or complacency.

In our walk with Christ, we’re called to seek the “faithful wounds” that keep us aligned with His will—whether they come from a close friend, a sibling, or the gentle conviction of the Holy Spirit. At the same time, we must test every compliment against Scripture, ensuring it isn’t a subtle snare.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the humility to receive honest correction from those who love me, trusting that Your hand is behind every faithful wound. Guard my heart against the deceptive allure of empty praise. May I grow in wisdom and walk ever closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. —John 1:12-13

Whoever believes in Jesus has become a child of God, born anew.

Many people live with a quiet question: “Do I really belong in God’s family?” John 1:12-13 gives a clear and beautiful answer. When you simply believe in Jesus, God instantly grants you the right to become His child. This is not earned by effort, good deeds, or religious performance. It is a supernatural birth—entirely from God.

This new birth does not depend on your family line, your willpower, or anyone else’s decision. The moment you put your faith alone in Jesus alone, you are born again into God’s family—forever. You now carry His name, enjoy His love, and share in His inheritance. Your place in God’s family is secure not because of what you do, but because of what Jesus has done.

You can rest in the simple reality that believing in Jesus was enough to bring you into God’s family. You are fully accepted and eternally secure in your Father’s house; eternally secure because Jesus promises eternal life to those who believe in Him.

Therefore, each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore we must not pass judgment on one another, but rather determine never to place an obstacle or a trap before a brother or sister. —Romans 14:12-13

Imagine a popular trail that leads to a beautiful summit. Two hikers, Leah and Sam, set out on the same day.

Leah walks at a steady, moderate pace, stopping frequently to admire wildflowers, take photos, and chat with fellow hikers.

Sam hikes fast, pushing ahead, focused on reaching the top quickly. He often glances back and thinks, “Why is she lagging? She’s slowing everyone down.”

Mid‑way, a sudden rockslide blocks the path. The trail is now narrow, and the only safe way forward is a side route that requires patience, careful footing, and teamwork.

Leah, accustomed to moving slowly and observing her surroundings, easily navigates the detour, helping others keep their balance. Sam, used to speed, becomes frustrated, slips, and nearly falls. He realizes that his judgment of Leah’s slower pace had blinded him to the very skills she now needs to get everyone safely to the summit.

When they finally reach the top, the view is spectacular—but the real reward is the realization that each hiking style contributed to the group’s safety. Sam learns that judging Leah’s pace was pointless; instead, he thanks her for the calm presence that saved the day.

Just as the trail demanded both speed and caution, the body of Christ needs both “fast‑track” zeal and “slow‑track” patience. When we judge another’s “pace,” we miss the God‑given contribution they bring to the journey.

Judgment is a shortcut that bypasses the richness of God’s design for the church. Like the hikers on a treacherous trail, we each carry unique gifts—some move quickly, some move deliberately. When we stop judging and start looking for the good God is doing through each person, we become a safer, stronger, and more beautiful journey toward the summit of His glory.

In his commentary, J. Vernon McGee gave these thoughts on today’s passage: “My friend, you and I need to recognize that we have to give an account of ourselves to Him. I’ll be honest with you, that disturbs me a little. I am wondering how I am going to tell Him about certain things. So I can’t sit in judgment upon you; I’m worried about Vernon McGee.”

When a judgmental impulse arises, pause, take three breaths, and silently repeat, “Only God judges.” Then, convert the judgment into a curiosity: “What might God be teaching me through this person?”

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
—Proverbs 16:18​

A friend of my wife’s once enjoyed a comfortable six-figure salary. Six months after being laid off, she still hadn’t found work. When my wife sent her a strong lead for a solid role with decent pay, though clearly a step down, her friend replied, “Sorry, I don’t want to take a pay cut.”

I was stunned. Here was someone with no income turning down an opportunity simply because it didn’t match her former title. Yet if we’re not careful, any one of us can fall into the same subtle trap: the pride of holding tightly to a past status.

Pride is more than loud boasting. It is the quiet conviction that we deserve a certain salary, title, or respect—no matter what our current circumstances say. The Bible warns that such pride goes before destruction. When we cling to a former title, paycheck, or reputation as if they define our worth, we build a wall that blocks fresh opportunities.

In this case, my wife’s friend wasn’t really refusing a paycheck, she was protecting an identity tied to her old role. The fear was that accepting a “lower” position would diminish her value in the eyes of others—and in her own eyes. But the very confidence that keeps us from stepping through a new doorway is the same confidence that can lead to a fall.

Consider Levi, better known as Matthew. He worked as a tax collector for the Roman Empire, one of the most lucrative jobs in first-century Israel. Though despised as a traitor who overcharged his own people, the position gave him financial security and status. One day Jesus simply walked by his tax booth and said, “Follow me.” Matthew’s response was immediate and radical: “He got up, left everything, and followed him” (Luke 5:28). He didn’t negotiate, ask for a severance package, or try to keep his old job “just in case.” That same night he threw a farewell party and closed the door on his former life.

God often reshapes our paths by first lowering us in order to lift us higher. A “step down” can become a stepping stone—equipping us with new skills, new relationships, and a deeper dependence on Him.

Pride locks us out of doors God is gently opening. When we choose humility instead of self-protection, we position ourselves for His redirection. What feels like a step down today can become the very path that leads to greater purpose, fresh skills, new relationships, and sometimes even greater provision than we had before.

The question we all must face in seasons of setback is simple: Will I cling to yesterday’s status, or will I trust God with tomorrow’s step?

“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.” —Luke 8:11-12

The evil one puts a tremendous amount of effort into keeping people from coming to faith in Christ. He doesn’t sit idly by when the seed of God’s Word is sown; he actively snatches it away before it can take root in the heart. Like a determined thief who studies his target and strikes at the perfect moment, satan works tirelessly to distract, discourage, or harden hearts because he knows a heart that believes in Jesus for His promise of everlasting life will never belong to him again.

Some people think that they must clean up their life first to be born again. Satan appreciates this false teaching for the reasons described in the previous paragraph. In reality, Jesus has taken away our sins, they are no longer a barrier to us being born again. Jesus gives everlasting life as a gift to whoever believes in Him for it—no strings attached.

Today, recognize the spiritual battle. Don’t let the enemy rob you of a life that never ends. Ask yourself this question: Have I ever simply believed in Jesus for His promise of everlasting life, or have I believed that my salvation depends on my works? If you have believed in Jesus for His life-saving promise at any time in your life, you have everlasting, or eternal, life. If you believe your works play a part in your salvation, the battle with the enemy continues.

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to the spiritual battle around me. Protect the seed of Your Word from the evil one who seeks to snatch it away before it can take root. Imagine a bustling beehive perched on a sun‑drenched meadow. Inside, thousands of worker bees dart back and forth, their wings a blur of motion. They zip from cell to cell, polishing combs, fanning the air, and polishing the walls of the hive. Their legs brush the wax, their antennae twitch with purpose, and a low hum fills the chamber.

Yet, despite all the frantic activity, none of the bees ever actually gather nectar. The entrance to the meadow remains closed, and the flowers outside stay untouched. The bees keep cleaning, rearranging, and polishing, but the golden honey that should fill the honeycomb never appears. The hive looks immaculate, the workers tireless, but the sweet reward that defines their purpose is missing.

As Christians, we often feel a strong inner drive to act, like the bees, our “wings” beat fast, our thoughts race, and we set ourselves to tasks that seem righteous or productive. However, our actions can become a display of busyness without the substance that the Spirit intends. In Romans, Paul learned that it was a matter of yielding, presenting himself and letting the Spirit of God live the Christian life through him.

True fruitfulness comes not from our own relentless activity alone, but from surrendering to the Holy Spirit who can turn our works into a sweet life‑giving honey that glorifies God.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

In a world that constantly tells us we’re never quite enough, Jesus offers the simplest and most profound truth. Our standing before God does not depend on accumulating enough good deeds, religious performance, or moral achievements. It rests on one thing alone: belief in His Son.

One condition only is given for escaping condemnation.

Believe in Him—the one and only Son of God. Not “believe and also do this,” or “believe once you’ve cleaned up your life,” or “believe after you’ve earned it.” Just believe. Trust that Jesus is who He says He is. Trust that His death and resurrection are sufficient to cover every failure, every shortcoming, every sin. The moment we place our faith in Him, the verdict changes from “condemned” to “not condemned.”

This is grace that strips away every excuse we use to delay coming to God. We can’t say, “I’m not ready yet” or “I need to get my life together first.” The only requirement has already been met by Jesus. Our part is simply to receive what He has done.

Many of us still carry a sense of guilt or fear that we’re one mistake away from losing God’s favor. But John 3:18 sets us free from that treadmill. If you have believed in Jesus, there is no condemnation hanging over you. None. The case is closed. The debt is paid. In Christ you are fully accepted, fully forgiven, and fully loved.

If you have never placed your trust in Jesus, today is the day that changes. The invitation is open. The condition is singular and simple: believe.

How can we be sure that we have really believed? Therein lies a problem created by traditions, not by the Word of God. That question is foreign to the Bible. There is no such thing as true faith as opposed to false faith. All faith is faith. If we believe in Christ for everlasting life, then we have everlasting life and we know we have it, because Jesus guarantees it in a number of verses that will be covered in future devotionals in this series.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that my acceptance with You is not based on my performance but on Your finished work. I believe in Your Son, Jesus. I trust Him completely for my salvation. Quiet every voice that says I’m not enough, and let the truth of Your Word settle deep in my heart: in Christ, I am not condemned. Help me live in that freedom and share it boldly with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

And he [Abram] believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him as righteousness.

Abraham stood under the vast night sky, surrounded by more stars than he could possibly count. At this point in his life, the promise God had given him years earlier still felt painfully out of reach. He and Sarah were childless. The heir God spoke of had not come. The future looked impossible by every human measure.

Yet in that moment, God asked Abraham to look up and believe something bigger than what he could see. No proof. No timeline. No visible evidence. Just a promise from the One who had never failed him.

And Abraham believed.

Not because the circumstances had changed, but because he chose to trust the One making the promise. In that instant of simple, honest faith, something extraordinary happened: God declared Abraham righteous. Not because of perfect behavior, not because of religious rituals, not because he had finally “arrived.” God credited righteousness to Abraham simply because he had faith in the LORD.

This is where the “Enough” journey begins.

Righteousness, or being made right with God, is not earned by doing enough good things, attending enough services, or fixing enough of our flaws. It is received the same way Abraham received it: by believing. Faith is enough.

Maybe tonight you feel like Abraham under that starry sky, holding onto promises that seem delayed or impossible. Perhaps you’re wondering if your faith is strong enough, consistent enough, or impressive enough for God to notice.

Hear this truth: God is not waiting for you to become enough. He declares you righteous the moment you place your trust in Jesus. Your faith alone in Christ alone is enough for Him to credit you with righteousness.

You don’t have to clean yourself up first.

You don’t have to manufacture more belief.

You don’t have to wait until the promise is fulfilled.

Like Abraham, you can simply look up and believe. God will do the rest.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that my relationship with You doesn’t begin with my efforts but with simple faith. Like Abraham, I choose to believe You. Thank You for declaring me righteous because I trust in You. When doubt creeps in and my circumstances scream otherwise, help me look up and remember that You are enough, and that my faith in You is enough for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

This series, which will focus on 30 Bible verses, is not another call to try harder, do more, or become “better” Christians. It is an invitation to rest in the finished work of Jesus and the free gift of His grace. It is about learning to live each day by simple, childlike faith, surrendering our striving and discovering that God’s grace really is sufficient for every weakness, every failure, and every season.

Enough will be published at a slower pace (Sundays and Wednesdays) than the recent Unsinkable series, providing ample time to focus on each message.

What “Enough” Means

• Christ is enough — His perfect life, death, and resurrection are all we need for salvation and daily life. Jesus promises everlasting life to whoever believes in Him for it.

• Grace is enough — God’s unmerited favor freely justifies us, sanctifies us, and carries us (no mixture of law or performance required). The Father paid an enormous price—the death of His Son—to make His grace available to us.

• Faith is enough — Not because faith is a work, but because it simply receives what God has already given. Over and over again Jesus says that the one who believes in Him has everlasting life, shall not come into judgment, shall never hunger or thirst, and shall never die.

• Surrender is enough — Releasing control, anxiety, and self-effort so that the power of Christ can rest on us. “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 9:12)

In a culture obsessed with self-improvement and performance, Enough will remind readers that the Christian life begins and continues by faith alone in Christ alone. I am looking forward to this new series!

Prayer: Lord, Thank You that Your grace is truly free, unearned, and sufficient. Over these next 30 non-consecutive days, open our eyes to the beauty of Your free grace. Teach us to live by faith alone, to surrender our striving, and to rest in the truth that You are Enough. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Chuck Swindoll: I have never seen a gravestone that reads, “He died of worry,” but some of them ought to read that way. How many illnesses are directly connected with our worries, our anxieties, trying to take the responsibility that was designed for God to handle. If you can’t handle it, why are you trying to handle it? If you can’t change it, why are you worrying about it? But we do, don’t we? We may even know people who become worried when they don’t have something to worry about.

Resting in Christ means handing over tomorrow’s troubles, today’s pressures, and even the habit of worrying when there is nothing immediate to worry about. In that surrender we discover the freedom to live, serve, and sleep in the peace that only the gentle and humble Savior can give.

We have reached the concluding message of the series on joy. Looking back over the past 30 days of this journey together, we have encountered the following overarching themes:

• Jesus’ Compassion — He is With You

• Jesus’ Sovereignty — He is In Control

• Jesus’ Goodness — He is For You

Joy is strength—deep, quiet, and steady in the face of difficulty; it doesn’t depend on comfort, it is rooted in Christ’s presence. True joy is something God brings to us. He gives joy not to distract us from pain but to strengthen us in it. Nehemiah said, “do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10b)

Now find joy in this final truth by saying out loud: “My future is secure because He has good plans for me.” As a believer in Jesus Christ for His promise of everlasting life, the Author of your story has written a glorious ending.
